Mother tongue classes for NRI children

For families living outside India, keeping a child’s mother tongue alive takes more than speaking it at home. Our live online classes help NRI children speak, read and write Malayalam, Kannada or Tamil — and enjoy it.

  • Live online classes
  • One-to-one or small groups
  • Free demo class
  • Timings agreed with you

Why it matters

Children growing up abroad often understand their family language but answer in English, and few get the chance to read or write it. A mother tongue keeps them close to grandparents and relatives, connects them to stories, songs and festivals, and gives them a second language that is truly theirs. We have written more about this in Rediscovering roots: the importance of learning our mother tongue.

Classes that fit life abroad

  • Timings agreed with you — tell us your time zone and preferred days; families in the UAE and Gulf can choose slots around the school day and weekend.
  • One-to-one or small groups — one-to-one suits siblings at different levels or a child who needs a confidence boost.
  • Parents stay in the loop — attendance, homework and progress are visible in the student portal.

How it works

  1. Tell us what you need. Message us on WhatsApp or fill in the short enquiry form — subject or language, grade or level, and the days and times that suit you.
  2. Free demo class. We arrange a free demo so the learner can meet the teacher and you can see how the class works.
  3. Matched teacher and schedule. We match a teacher by subject, level and availability, and agree a one-to-one or small-group plan.
  4. Learn and track progress. Classes run live online. Students and parents can see the schedule, attendance, homework and progress in the Glider student portal.

Frequently asked questions

At what age can my child start?

Children can start once they are comfortable joining a short online class with a teacher. Tell us your child’s age and how much of the language they already understand, and we will suggest a starting course.

My child only understands a little. Is that enough to start?

Yes. Many children start with very little. The teacher begins with sounds, everyday words and simple conversation, and builds up to reading and writing.

Which countries can we join from?

Classes are online, so families can join from anywhere with a stable internet connection — including the UAE, other Gulf countries, Europe and North America. We agree class timings in your time zone.

Are the classes live or recorded?

Classes are live and online, taught by a Glider teacher in real time — either one-to-one or in a small group. You only need a laptop, tablet or phone with a stable internet connection.

How much do the classes cost?

Fees depend on the course, the number of classes per week and whether you choose one-to-one or small-group classes. Tell us what you need and we will share the exact fee for your plan before you start — the demo class is free.
